How old do I need to be to join?
We can accept anyone in school year eight that has passed their 12th birthday.
How often do I need to attend?
We parade twice a week, Tuesday and Friday for the Easingwold unit, and Tuesday and Thursday for the Linton on Ouse unit. Ideally you can attend both nights most weeks in order to gain the most from your cadet experience – but we are flexible!
How much does it cost?
We’re really proud to be able to keep costs low as our committee fundraise to do this, and we are sponsored by the Royal Air Force. We charge subscriptions of £20 a month – and these go towards keeping other costs low like activities. A week’s annual camp on an RAF Station normally costs £50 (plus a little spending money). If there are financial issues please see us as we can usually help to make sure money is not a restricting factor in gaining experience!
Where do I get the uniform from?
We’ll provide it for free! The only thing we ask you to purchase is your parade shoes for hygiene reasons – and we can help give you suggestions of where to find them. Although we don’t get issued our green combat clothing, we have enough in stock that we can usually give you it.
Will I require a short hair cut?
Male cadets need a smart hairstyle that doesn’t touch the shirt collar or touch the ears, unless there are religious reasons why this isn’t possible. Females either need to have short hair or to wear their hair neatly in a bun.
Do I have to go flying? I’m scared!
Although we love flying, we offer many many different opportunities so there really are activities for everyone! Flying in a small aircraft is so different to an airliner – great 360 vision and you know exactly what you are doing, it’s a very different (and great!) experience.
